On Saturday May 8 and Sunday May 9, 1999, Troop 208 went to the Oddfellows Campsite near Umstead Park for an advancement weekend and service project at Lake Crabtree County Park.
We started out at the entrance to the Oddfellows campsite off of Old Reedy Creek Road. The campsite is actually on the property of the RDU airport, which graciously allows the scouts to camp here.
After camp was set up, and the scouts had finished lunch, the troop hiked into Lake Crabtree County Park to work on a service project. Our mission was to clean up some of the trails in the park. Here we see the scouts walking on the Black Creek Greenway, a paved trail.
Scouts Ross Whitcher, Kyle Ryan, Adam Johnson and Jonathan Allen take a break after cleaning the trails.
After a tough day cleaning the trails, the scouts prepare their fires for cooking dinner. The intent was to get some good coals for cooking our hobo chicken dinners. Senior scout Sheldon Whitcher instructs the younger scouts  on the proper way to create a good fire.
Here Justin Webb is turning the hobo dinners using leather gloves.
Assistant scoutmasters Brent Miller and Tom Link enjoy the fruits of the efforts of scouts Andrew Trull and Justin Webb. The meal culminated in a blueberry cobbler. Ummm.......
At the campfire the scouts shared stories, songs and scout spirit. Despite Sheldon and Jonathan's efforts, the fire always looked like it was about to go out.
As we depart Sunday morning, scouts Andrew Dunn and Ross Whitcher carry their packs and supplies back to the camp entrance.
