Troop 208 Ski Trip to Sugar Mountain Ski Resort

Troop 208 journeyed to Sugar Mountain Ski Resort on Saturday January 23, 20000. We arrived  on Friday, stayed overnight at the Boone United Methodist Church, and spent Saturday at the ski resort. Some of us attempted to return to Cary Saturday evening, but 421 was closed due to accidents (it was snowing), and 321 could not be navigated with our two-wheel drive vehicles.

Arriving at the top of the blue lift at 9am, the view was spectacular. This was the first time many of us had skied on natural snow. There was 12 inches of new natural snow.
Scoutmaster Mr. Whitcher (with the red hat) takes a ride up the rope tow. This is the site for the ski school, and Mr. Whitcher was taking a lesson.
On the left is Mr. Whitcher. In the center are Andrew Trull and Justin Webb, and to the right is Mr. Dunn, all taking a lesson. It apparently did little good for Mr. Whitcher, who broke a finger later that day.
In the line for the yellow left we see Neil Link and Brian Block. Because of the spectacular ski conditions, this lift was very crowded all day.
Andrew Trull and Justin Webb practice their moves in front of the rope tow. They had just completed ski school.
By mid morning, it had started snowing. First, at the top of the mountain, and then later at the lodge. By the time we left at 5 pm,  there was several inches of new snow. From the gray left, you could see the snow falling, and the crowded slopes leading to the yellow lift.
Aditya Devalapalli was prepared with his "interesting" hat. It was never more than 15 degrees outside.
The camera lens fogged up as we entered the cafeteria to warm up. Ryan Spain and Andrew Dunn had come inside for warmth as well.
After a harrowing trip back to Boone (17 miles), and the aborted attempt to return home, we watched "Lost In Space" and then slipped into our sleeping bags.
