Troop 208 journeyed to the mountains of North Carolina May 19,20 and 21 of 2000. On Saturday afternoon, we rafted down the French Broad River.
Our tent city is calm Saturday morning before we start rafting. Jonathan Sands sits around the fire while others finish their cold breakfast.
Mr. Whitcher and Mr. Couture address the scouts before we begin a nature hike.
The scouts walk on the rocks on a small river that flowed near our campsite.

As part of the nature hike, we picked up trash near the river and along the highway.
Our rafting guides get use ready to go down the French Broad. They can be readily identified by their colored helmets. The troop all wore white.
We start down the river at about 2:30pm. It is about 75 to 80 degrees outside, and starting to rain.
Our first class 1 rapids was fun.
This area was more challenging. There were LOTS of rocks in the area.
We were invited to go for a swim. Everyone was already wet, and the river was just about the perfect temperature.
Our guide had us crouch down as we went over this one. We were the second of four rafts, so my photos are of the last two going down.
The next boat goes down.
Man does not live on rafting alone. The Rafting company treated us to hamburgers and hotdogs for dinner.
The scouts were happy not to clean anything.
Relaxing Saturday morning before we depart.
