Offer To Be Your Son's UK Banker

This note is for those of you who are still wondering how to send your Scout to England with adequate spending and emergency" money and how he should access his funds.

My account with the Halifax Building Society in England which has offices in virtually every town and city, allows me to withdraw up to L600 per day (about $900). I am prepared to be your son's Banker by accepting US$'s paid into my local Wachovia account here before we leave and distributing funds in L's to him in UK on the basis of any instructions you like to give me.

The exchange rate would be whatever rate is in effect on the day you give me US$'s - probably (on any given day) about US$1,52 per L1.

While food, lodging and transportation are already paid for, we estimate that each boy will spend about $20-$25 per day on average on personal items, snacks, gifts etc. in the eleven days we are there. Some days, we won't be anywhere where we can spend money -other days, we will be in and out of gift shops etc.

If you want me to help with distributing monies in this way, please speak to me and give me any specific instructions for your boy's personal banking. For instance, you might instruct me to give him $20 each morning or let him have money whenever h requires it up to the maximum daily and for total draw you stipulate. You may also want to give me extra cash to be only made available to him in a dire emergency.

Up to a point, l can extend extra emergency credit to him for repayment by you into my US$ account after the event. Please let me know as soon as possible if you want to do this.
