EXPEDITION TO UK JUNE 4 – JUNE 15, 2000

TOUR ITINERARY


Sunday June 4 4:00 p.m. Meet RDU for overnight flight American Airlines to London Gatwick. Must check in as a group. Meet at American Airlines Ticket Counter - Terminal C. Plane leaves at 6:15PM (American Airlines  174). Dinner and Breakfast will be served on the Plane. Don't Be Late-Late arrivals will be left at the airport!
Monday June 5 7:00AM. Arrive London Gatwick: Clear British Immigration and Customs. Gatwick Express Train to London Victoria. Tube and  Surface Train to East London "Docklands" area. Check-in at HMS    Training Ship Lord Armoury around 10:30AM.

Afternoon - Team Meetings at 1:30PM: Introduction to using the London Underground, Introduction and Initiation of the London Scavenger Hunt. Optional Group "recce" trip to central London. Evening meal in Piccadiliy Square. Groups Must be back on board the HMS Lord Armoury by 11:00PM.
 

Tuesday June 6 Sight-seeing in central London, Scavenger Hunt in Groups. Open    Top Double Decker Bus. Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, Changing of the Guard, Big Ben, Tower Bridge, War Museum, British Museum, Churchill's Underground War Operations Bunker, US Embassy, Hyde Park. Must be back on board the HMS Lord Armoury by 11:00PM.
Wednesday June 7 More Sight-seeing in central London, Continue on Scavenger Hunt in Groups. Charing Cross, Greenwich (GMT), "Cutty Sark" sailing ship. Evening - London By Night. Optional London Theater. Must be back on board the HMS Lord Armoury by 11:00PM.
Thursday June 8 Finish London Scavenger Hunt in Groups. Trooping of the Color, Official ER II Birthday, Royal House Guards Parade. Award at 9:00PM for team that best completes the Troop 208 London Scavenger Hunt.
Friday June 9 Goodbye to HMS Lord Armoury. Pick-up Vans from Budget Rental in Docklands. Drive to Wallasey Scout District (230 miles). Leave at 9:30AM. Met by hosts from Wallasey District Scout Association. Stay at HQ 28th Scout Lodges, St. Georges Road.
Saturday/Sunday Sight-seeing and fun with local area Troops. Visit to German U-boat and Maritime Museum. Tour of Mr. Williams' birthplace, schools etc. OR if "Williams" tour is oversubscribed, tour Beatles birthplaces, schools. Saturday Evening Barbecue. Troop 208 will present a Flag Transfer to the Wallasey Scout District.
Monday June 12 Leave 8:30AM Merseyside for Wiltshire via Roman city of Chester. See Roman walls, ruined forts etc. Pass through Cotswold villages and Shakespeare country. Arrive Salisbury, Wiltshire. Two night stay at Wiltshire District Scout HQ in Salisbury.
Tuesday June 13 Visit ancient Druid stone circle - Stonehenge. Private guided tour at sunset (one week before summer solstice, Cost is #8.00). Boat Trip, Guided Tour, and lunch visit to Boy scout camp at Brown Sea Island - world's first ever Boy Scout camp - first camped by Baden Powell and twelve "city" boys in 1906. (Cost is #15.00).
Wednesday June 14 Leave Salisbury at 8:00AM. Drive to Charleston on south coast of Sussex to encamp at Charleston Manor (~3 hours). Tour cliffs and seashore of England's south coast. Last minute shopping spree. Prepare for next day departure: Farewell dinner in Village Pub. Optional Capture the flag at Charleston Manor (English Gardens of a Nobleman).
Thursday June 15 Leave for Gatwick Airport at 8:30AM. Drop off Mini-buses. Must arrive at Gatwick by 10:00AM to check-in. Leave London Gatwick at 11:30AM {American Airlines Flight 173). Arrive RDU at 3:15PM. Clear US Immiigration and Customs. Parents meet at the Exit Door for US Customs (Near Gate C-16).
